PPPN COVID-19 HEALTH TRAINING: VACCINE EQUITY

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

On Saturday, January 12th we held a conversation with Dr. Anupama Das to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Das serves as a Champion for Vaccine Equity. The Champions for Vaccine Equity Initiative is a new approach developed and administered by the Immunization Branch at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). The purpose of the initiative is to foster relationships and dialogue with communities who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 about vaccine importance, effectiveness, and safety. The Champions involved in the initiative are healthcare providers who have medical expertise and lived experience, and who are committed to serving their communities above and beyond their full-time positions. Champions and CDPHE staff attend community engagement events to listen to community concerns about the COVID-19 vaccines as well as to share accurate information about the COVID-19 vaccine based on the group's interest.

Anupama (Anu) Das was born in Kerala, India in 1967 and has been living in the US since 1976. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Alabama, and then spent time working and studying in India before she completed her pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota. After taking time to be at home with her children, she completed her retraining fellowship in May of 2020 at the Children’s Hospital Colorado Pediatric Residency program and is currently doing her preventive medicine residency at the University of Colorado, Anschutz.

Her passion is working to prevent disease and help address health and wellness issues in under-represented and underserved populations both in the US and abroad. She is very motivated to find solutions for health which are culturally sensitive and respect all aspects of the human condition including spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical.
